Once you get the hang of it, you might find yourself setting aside your rasps and spoke shaves. The three different contours of the disks are perfect for scooping, sculpting, and flattening areas with precision. After that, all you need is a bit of sanding to smooth out the lines from the angle grinding. It’s way quicker than relying solely on hand tools.

I create a variety of rustic items like benches, shelves, hooks, and walking sticks from different local woods. Recently, I started using carving discs with an angle grinder, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by their performance. Combined with a chainsaw, these discs transform old logs into useful and interesting pieces very quickly. They also leave a smoother surface than I expected and work much faster than even the coarsest sanding discs. It’s important to take your time and use a side hand grip for safety, as using them with one hand can be risky. While I can’t yet comment on their long-term durability, they’ve been cutting like new even after a few hours of use.
